This is a long story, but so so very worth reading. Make yourself some tea or coffee and sit down for a gripping true story. I had no idea that so many children have been re-homed via an internet advertisement.  Here’s the story that’s hard to forget: Parents Swap Adopted Kids Online

  1. Absolutely HORRIFYING. This is why it’s so important to choose a homestudy agency that truly prepares you to parent an adopted child. Our agency (Lifeline) requires so much education and offers wonderful resources to be sure we are prepared. But there should absolutely be laws in place to prevent this sort of thing from happening!

I should also add that some countries (including Thailand, where we are adopting from) require post placement visits from a social worker for 6 months after placement. As much as I hate that we will have additional work/visits after our daughter comes home (which means it will take 6 months to a year to finalize her adoption), I can absolutely see the value in this requirement. I’m glad Thailand is so concerned about ensuring the placement is healthy before allowing finalization.
