16 weeks

What is baby up to at 16 weeks? (from baby center)

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he’s about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces.

Soon you’ll experience one of the most wonderful moments of pregnancy β€” feeling your baby move. While some women notice “quickening” as early as 16 weeks, many don’t feel their baby move until about 18 weeks or more. (And if this is your first baby, don’t be too impatient β€” you may not be aware of your baby’s movements until 20 weeks or so.) The earliest movements may feel like little flutters, gas bubbles, or even like popcorn popping. Over the following weeks they’ll grow stronger and you’ll be able to feel them much more frequently.

Weight gain: In the last couple of weeks, I’ve gained 2 pounds. Haven’t gained before now even though my pants have been feeling tight for a while!

Sleep: At around 15 weeks, I started experiencing lower back pain. Bought a pregnancy pillow and my back is much better since! Sleep is mostly okay. I get up at least once in the night to pee (I used to sleep through the night). Our dog has been sick the last 3 days so we’ve been up with him every 2 hours at night. Preparation for baby?!!

Movement: Nothing yet. I feel pinches at times but I think that may be the uterus stretching.

Symptoms: Finding myself more tired, I could go to bed at 8pm but try to stay up a little longer. I feel nauseous at times after eating and also if I get too hungry. But over-all, the nausea is much better. I’m back to just 3 meals a day now (instead of snacking every 2 hours). I rarely cough gag anymore (even while brushing my teeth!).

Looking forward to: feeling baby move. And our road-trip vacation to Nashville and Charleston, SC! We are going to the CMA’s! I hope I can stay awake to enjoy it πŸ™‚
