What is baby up to at 24 weeks? (from baby center)
Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at about 1 1/3 pounds. Since he’s almost a foot long (about the size of an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.
New: Since my last post (22 weeks), I’ve got comments such as, “you are showing now” and “you look pregnant”. I feel pregnant too. The best way that I can describe having my belly expand is that of feeling bloated all of the time.
Weight gain: I’ve gained 7 pounds total. 2 pounds in the last week! Whether that’s baby or Christmas celebrations is to be debated 🙂
Sleep: Sleeping well for the most part, although I notice myself waking up more often through out the night.
Movement: Yes. Not all the time. Sometimes I go stretches with feeling nothing and get a little concerned…but then the movement or kick that I feel is reassuring. While laying down in bed, I sometimes watch for movement and it’s so cool to see and kinda creepy at the same time.
Symptoms: Feeling uncomfortable as belly grows. And this past week I’ve come to the conclusion that I think my night vision has changed in pregnancy!
Looking forward to: Our next appointment with our midwife. The first appointment went very well. It was close to an hour long. She left us with some really good information to read over and things to think about. And I’m looking forward to starting our childbirth class at the end of January. I’m interested in the material, looking forward to meeting people due around the same time as us, and I expect that the drive home from class will provide a helpful opportunity for Derek and I to discuss the content together (it’s a 40 minute drive).
