28 weeks

What is baby up to at 28 weeks? (from baby center)

By this week, your baby weighs 2 1/4 pounds (about the size of a large eggplant) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels.

She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She’s also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

You’re in the home stretch! The third and final trimester starts this week. If you’re like most women, you’ll gain about a pound per week this trimester.

New: Since my last post (26 weeks), not a whole lot is new. I’m still enjoying working out 3x a week and proud of myself that I’ve stuck to my goal for the past 5 weeks!  I started doing a low-impact work out video at 23 weeks due to feeling so stiff and uncomfortable already. After years of not exercising, it took fear (what will I feel like in the 3rd trimester if I’m so uncomfortable at 23 weeks?!!!!) to get me moving. Exercise has helped tremendously. On another note, while I get comments at times that I’m small, the maternity pants that I’m wearing today are getting too tight around the belly!
Weight gain: 12 pounds. Originally, I thought it would be great to gain 15-25 pounds in pregnancy. Now I’m thinking  between 20-30 pounds. Approx.12 weeks left 🙂
Re: weight gain, some people may think that its on the low side as I enter the 3rd trimester. While I wondered about this myself, I’m trying not to worry about it anymore. Baby wise, I’m measuring exactly as I should be at this point. I have an average appetite (no pregnancy cravings – what are those?! ha) and can’t eat too much at one time or else I feel sick. I‘ve heard that some women gain most of their weight in the 3rd trimester so it should be interesting to see!
Sleep: Decent lately. Feeling less tired this week as a result.
Movement: Wow, baby’s movement can be quite powerful! At times it feels like there’s a little alien in there that’s trying to escape. Kinda creepy! Yesterday, I saw baby move from side to side through my thick sweater. Lately, if my arm is pressed against my stomach I’ll feel a kick or two to my arm.
Symptoms: I haven’t mentioned this symptom yet as I didn’t know that it could be a pregnancy symptom til yesterday when a lady at work mentioned it. During this pregnancy, I’ve been experiencing charlie horse cramps in my lower legs (mostly my right leg). Tends to be at some point in the night or upon waking. Ouch! It happens approx. 3-5 times a week.
Looking forward to: Our family baby shower on February 7th. Can’t believe that it’s right around the corner. You only have your 1st ever baby shower once. What should I wear? Our baby registries (we registered at both Babies R US and Amazon) are 99% complete.
