What is baby up to at 32 weeks? (from baby center):
By now, your baby weighs 3 3/4 pounds (about the size of a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You’re gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she’ll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb. She now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). Her skin is becoming soft and smooth as she plumps up in preparation for birth.
New: Since my last post (30 weeks), we had our family co-ed baby shower. It was fun! My sister and her husband did a great job. Unfortunately, a bunch of people couldn’t be there due to illness or the weather. I can’t believe that my first baby shower is over 😦 Time is flying! Also since my last post, we met with a doula and are leaning towards using one. Not only will she be our coach/support person during labour but she’ll also provide 6 months of post-partum support after the birth!
Weight gain: 18.5 pounds. I’m surprised by this as that’s only 2.5 pounds since 30 weeks. They say that gaining 1 pound a week here on out is considered average/normal so I’m okay. I was surprised by this week’s weight as I was gaining over 2 pounds a week for a bit there (and getting a bit scared!). I’ve been told by others that I’m small, I don’t feel that way in the last two weeks. Definitely feeling pregnant.
Sleep: decent but I’m sick of sleeping only on my side. Surprisingly, I miss back sleeping even more than sleeping on my stomach! I also can’t seem to find a comfortable position these days for my right hand (more on that in symptoms).
Movement: Feeling more pushes than kicks or flips these days. Baby must not like my right hip bone ’cause there’s a lot of pushing against that. There’s still some kicks to my right side rib area at times.
Symptoms: what started off as tingly/sore hands in the mornings has now become carpel tunnel. It seems to be worse in the mornings after a night of side-only sleeping. I need to invest in a brace as its become quite bad and painful this week. Derek’s had to help me with preparing my breakfast, opening things, etc. I also hit my head not once but twice on the way to the bathroom two nights ago. It resulted in a large goose egg and a bruise (still hurts). Derek’s sweet to have put a night light on in the bathroom last night – happy to report no injuries this morning! 🙂
Looking forward to: Monday is Family Day in Ontario, Canada. I’m looking forward to setting up the nursery with Derek on Monday!
