3 False Statements given to New Parents

“You forget the pain of childbirth” – No, no you don’t. You remember. An epidural free childbirth is a painful experience you’ll never forget. Shortly after the birth you’ll wonder what just happened. But as time passes, you’ll gain more clarity. You’ll remember the tremendous pain. And this pain may cause you to be afraid to have child #2! Yes, it’s worth it. But it hurts and you remember this fact.

“It gets easier” – I believe that being a parent will never be easy. Each stage will have its share of highs and lows. Hardships and joys. Maybe it gets easier as we get over the shell shock of becoming new parents. But that’s because we become better at coping.

“Sleep is overrated” – Um, no. No way! Sleep is essential. Not getting enough sleep at night never gets easier. The only thing that gets easier is getting more sleep at night! There have been times where I would have depleted all of our savings account if it could have bought me a solid 8 hours of sleep.

There you have it. Anything you’d add to this list? Do you agree or disagree with the three common statements above?
